How to Read the Checker

The checker reports one of four statuses:

• Accessible — full access to deposit, trade, and withdraw.
• Restricted — accessible with regional limitations.
• Close-Only — existing users can close positions; new users cannot trade.
• Blocked — not accessible at all.

Statuses reflect Polymarket’s compliance with local regulations and can change as laws evolve.

A Blocked status means access to polymarket.com itself is blocked — either by a government or internet provider, or because the jurisdiction falls under OFAC sanctions. That is not the same as a Polymarket-side restriction. Polymarket also runs its own separate geoblocks on order placement, and those are what produce most “trading is disabled” messages. Both are explained below.

Is Polymarket Down?

This page answers “is Polymarket available where I am,” not “is Polymarket up right now.” We don’t run a live uptime monitor, so if you came here looking for a status page, the honest answer is: confirm on Polymarket’s official channels — the help centre and Polymarket’s official X account.

Most people searching for this are actually seeing one of two things, and it’s worth telling them apart before blaming the platform:

• “Trading is disabled” or a similar message, while the site loads normally. This is usually a geoblock, not an outage. The message reflects your IP and account, not the health of the platform. A country-level block shows a restriction message too — and it doesn’t stop Polymarket serving users elsewhere.
• Nothing loads at all. If polymarket.com won’t load for you but loads for people in other countries, suspect a government- or ISP-imposed block on the domain (at the DNS or IP layer) before you suspect an outage. An outage affects every user regardless of location; a block affects one network or region.

A quick rule of thumb: an outage is global — market data, order books and logins are all affected for everyone. A restriction is specific to you, your account, or your country. If your portfolio and balances load but you can’t open an order, that’s a restriction, not a platform failure.

Polymarket’s Geoblock Endpoint

Developers and AI agents can query Polymarket’s own geoblocking directly:

GET https://polymarket.com/api/geoblock

It returns the geoblocking status for the requesting IP — the response includes blocked, ip, country, and region. Use it to check, before you build an order flow, whether Polymarket’s geoblocking applies to the connection making the request.

Two caveats worth knowing:

• It reports Polymarket’s own geoblocking, not a government or ISP block. If a network is blocking polymarket.com at the DNS or IP layer, the endpoint may be unreachable from that connection even though Polymarket itself isn’t restricting the user.
• The answer depends on the IP you call it from. A request from a server in one country can return a different result than a request from a user’s browser, so run it from the connection you actually care about.

Polymarket’s Geoblocks vs Country-Imposed Blocks

These are two structurally different things, and mixing them up is the most common source of confusion on this topic. Keep them separate.

1. Polymarket’s own geoblocks — enforced by Polymarket on order placement, in three tiers:

• Block-completely — no new orders, and existing positions cannot be closed. This applies to OFAC-sanctioned jurisdictions.
• Close-only — you can close existing positions, but you cannot open new ones.
• Close-only (frontend only) — the website restricts new orders, but the API is not restricted.

2. Country-imposed blocks — a government, regulator, or internet provider blocks polymarket.com itself at the DNS or IP layer. Polymarket may still be willing to serve these users; the block comes from the network, not from Polymarket. A country can carry this on top of a Polymarket geoblock — the two are independent.
